Editorial
The garages are done and we're working on the interior of the extension now.
And in other news, I started a full-time job a couple of weeks ago (which as these diaries are so far behind that means the start of 2025) so I'll have way less time for building and blogging.
Oh well, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do eh?
Till next time then, and remember,
Don't Dream it, Be it!

Today I'm stumping the new floor section. I used purlin offcuts for stumps and set them on bricks, not the best option really but it works and is free as I already have the materials.

Before fixing the stump to a floor joist I preload it by jacking up the floor just a tad, that way when I release the preload the floor places a good load on the stump.

Our friend's shed is all finished.

As is mine.

I was worried that my nice new modern shed might look out of place amongst the rustic corro house, but I don't think it does. Eventually it will be blended into the house and look better but I like it even now.

Now that the floor joists are all done I can start sheeting the rest of the floor. This will be the dining area.

Meanwhile Geri is refurbing the old kitchen hutch we bought a while ago. And we can see the sink propped up in it's planned location.

The buffet part of the hutch is ready for painting.

Some more of the loungeroom floor is done.

The hutch base is done as well, just needs the doors to be finished and put back on.

One of the recently recycled casement windows is leaning against the wall. I'm building the window frames for them as you can see with the timber clamped to the purlin at the very right of the image.

The hutch is finished and Geri has done a marvellous job

While sitting on the deck with my morning coffee I noticed these spider webs.

And somehow it seemed appropriate for a meme.

Finally we can eat at a table in the dining area.

OK, it'as not that great but it's a start.
The floor is done as you can see and also the refurbished French doors have been hung.
Back down to Hervey Bay today to catch up with friends at The Depot coffee shop. I've been there many times and always liked the look of this old shed, I can't get a great shot from outside the property but this will do.

The owner comes out to see what I'm up to, he's a bit surley at first but my winning charm soon mellows his attitude and we yack about the shed for a while. They planned to fix it up properly but just never seem to get the time.
Then on the way home I decide to make a small detour to see how the old Booyal hall is lookign today.
I like the way the grass has been oddly shaped so do take a photo, although it's not that good really.

Then later think it might look good as a "vintaged" image.

Yeah I don't mind that.

We bought this sideboard/bedside table combo a while back with a view to using it as a TV cabinet and DVD storage and you can see it here under the TV.

But the storage it provides is nowhere near enough for the 100s of DVDs I own (let alone the 100s I plan to buy) so we'll have to think about something else for them.
And another thing we bought (everything is second hand, whether off Facebook market place or one of the local secondhand shops) is this buffet.

This will form a base for one of the kitchen benches.

Showing the relationship between the main house and our friend's place about a 100 yards away.

A neighbour is dismantling his raised garden bed and asked if we want the dirt. We sure do so he brought it down in old paint buckets.

A "fixer upper" on the main street of Gin Gin.

You can have the house but I would like those louvre windows.
Tue 09 Jul 2024
As mentioned we bought a buffet to use as a base for one of the kitchen benches. But it's just a tad too high to match the rest of the benches and as luck would have it the height I need to reduce it by is the same as the height of the "feet" on the buffet.
I can do most of the work with the circular saw but it doesn't quite have the depth of cut required. So I finish off with a hand saw.

We're getting a load of blue metal today, half is for the other house and half for here. It's to cover the dirt both inside and outside the shed so we don't walk on mud when it rains. In preparation we place some sleepers and old bridge timbers along the sides of the shed to stop the stones bleeding to the outside.

Half a truck load of gravel dumped in the garage entrance.

The kitchen hutch loaded up with some plates etc. This will all have to be removed because I still have to clad that wall behind the hutch and we probably can't move it when loaded up.

One of the benches, I build the carcasses with steel. The stove top will go above the oven.

An overview of the layout.

We spread some of the gravel around our friend's garage.

Some more gravel, this time around the house.
