Editorial
We have a family member that has been real sick over the last couple of months. She's on the mend now thank goodness but we still have to spend a lot of time providing support.
This support role has largely been Geri's, with me helping out when I can, for the most part I've been here at Wallaby Ridge working on the building, with nightly moral support on the phone and the occasional sortee to parts south
Till next time then, and remember,
Don't Dream it, Be it!

A local steel company is selling 1x1" galvanized RHS seconds pretty cheap. I go to have a look and they seem to be as good as "firsts" to me, so I buy 30 of them.

That's $600 worth of steel, no wonder I've never got any money.

Remember that long narrow window that used to be here and was recently relocated to the tower? Well now I'm fabricating a frame for its replacement.

Meanwhile some of the garden is doing well, specifically the tomatoes.

And this plant that we didn't put there. I have no idea what it is. Whatever it is though it seems to be unhappy inside the enclosure and it's trying to escape.

Here's the (almost) finished window replacement. A full height louvre window. This will give a much improved ventilation and also a way better outlook from the lounge room.

And to save you trawling through the last 20 chronicles to find a photo showing what it used to look like, here's a view from last year.

And finally the view from inside.

I don't have an inside photo from back then but I think that it's pretty obvious that the ventilation will be way improved with the new window, especially considering that the old window didn't even open.
We love the turkeys around here but they can be a real pain, we can't even sit outside without one or two of them jumping up on the table or even on to my lap.
Here's one up on the new deck area.

The planks are some test pieces I screwed there a few weeks ago to see if some cheap rough-sawn pine will work as the decking. (Spoiler alert, it doesn't.)

With regard to the turkeys, I do love the little guys but they just have no concept of personal space, and the cage we erected around the Zen garden worked so well I decided to go the full monty and cage in the entire living space. So here is the answer to the turkey invasion.

Yep, once again it's the humans around here that live in a cage and the animals that roam free. But that's OK, and also it is a security measure for other two-legged critters, not that that has been a problem but I am quite security conscious and like to have multiple levels of "stuff" somebody has to get through before getting to the inner keep, so to speak.
Another view of the cage, but this one also shows the new window down near ground level and the old one way up there in it's new location on the tower.

And speaking of security, I'm a big fan of having multiple backups for my computer files. I have four external drives plugged in to the computer all the time.

And others waiting in the wings to be swapped in regularly.

In general I have three main sets of files to backup, raw photos, processed photos, and everything else such as program source files, the PHP and HTML source code for this web site, CAD drawings etc etc.
At least one of each set should be kept off site, but I've been a bit slack in that regard and need to up my game there.
I also run a program in the background that archives certain important files every time they are saved.

A big day today, the new house arrives.

It's called a "Vanhome" and as you can see it's delivered essentially as a trailer/caravan, but then it unfolds into a home. Hense the name.

It took them a day and a half to finish the installation.
Wallaby Ridge is now a two-house property and here we see where the new house is situated relative to my place.

Not so close as to be in each other's pockets, but still close enough to be able to yell "Howdy neighbour", someting I've always wanted to do for some reason.

Down to Biggenden today, I always seem to find an image or two around Mt Walsh.

Then on my return I see a Pheasant Coucal, finally one that doesn't fly off immediately. I do get a reasonable photo but it's nowhere near close enough.

However with today's technology I can zoom in on the computer to get a better image.

It wouldn't make a large print but it's still OK I think.
The escaping plant turns out to be a yellow water melon.

I've moved the kitchen window so the view won't be blocked by a proposed guest room. Here's an external view, it used to be to the left of this image.

And a shot from inside what will be the kitchen.

This book has a lot of good reviews so I've been reading it. Get a load of the tabs I've inserted so far, and I'm only about half way through.

It basically exposes a lot of the BS we've been taught over the years about what is healthy and what is not.
Spoiler alert, invert just about every piece of advice the government and medical authorities have given us over the last few decades.

Before I can lay the floor boards I have to do the drainage plumbing under the kitchen.

The pipe heading off to the right is for the kitchen sink, and the one heading towards the camera is for a future bathroom.

Our familiy member has been transferred again, this time rehab in Nambour. We drive her down and stay the night in a nearby hotel. It's a nice enough place, the hotel I mean, I've never liked the town, too many hills for the sort of car I usually drive.
I always have my new camera with me these days, well you just never know when you will see a pigeon on a tile roof eh?

Back to Hervey Bay. Once again we need some accommodation and we pick a "resort" that looks reasonable on the web. It's only $70 per night and that should have been a massive red flag because we normally have to spend about twice that much.
We get there to find out why it's only $70, it's a backpackers. The room is abysmal and there is no bathroom or even facilities for making coffee, you have to use the common kitchen (for the coffee that is, not the bathroom). I don't mind that much but Geri is unimpressed to say the least. I ask for an upgrade but there are no free rooms tonight so this is it.
As it happens we have a very enjoyable night doing crosswords. Go figure, must be getting old eh?

The room was bad but the grounds are really nice, so we wander around taking a few photos then head off.
