OK, so the new FTP uploading arrangement seems to work pretty well so let's get this show back on the road...well I'm not on the road these days as you know, but you get the idea.

Actually I am on the road a fair bit at present, because Geri lives in Hervey Bay and that's about a 2-hour drive away, plus I've met a swag of new friends down there so I do tend to drive down a lot.

Getting back to my website problems. I don't use any fancy WYSIWYG programs, yes I do use a 22-year-old version of Dreamweaver but I just use it as an editor, and even that is being ditched now in favour of Sublime Text, a fantastic text editor that I will also be using for other coding jobs in future.

So Here is an example of the code on this site, specifically the first few lines of this very page.

<?php
define ('ROOT_PATH', "../../../");
define ('ISSUE', "102");
define ('COMMENT_FILE', "issue-" . ISSUE);
define ('PAGE_TITLE', "The GRAYnomad Chronicles :: #". ISSUE);
include(ROOT_PATH . 'php/page_header.php');

include(ROOT_PATH . 'php/imagebase/ib_td.php');
include(ROOT_PATH . 'php/info_images.php');
PrintImageInfoPopupCode($info_images[ISSUE]);
PrintImageCornerStyles();
?>

<link rel="stylesheet" href="../../../css/css_main.css" type="text/css">
<?php PrintChronicleTableStart(); ?>

Everything is either hardcoded HTML or more likely hardcoded PHP that generate the HTML.

Yeah I know that's old school, and I have used the likes of WIX and Squarespace in the past, even gave WIX another try recently to get around my problems, but I always come back to simple products that don't try to do too much.

And heck, I just enjoy coding.

Till next time then, and remember,

Here we are back on the Scarness jetty in Hervey Bay, watching these pretty little birds.

I kinda liked this old house and it's sheduled for demolition so I took a photo of it.

And speaking of photos, I just bought a new camera.

It's what they call a "bridge" camera, meaning that they are normally used by people with point-and-shoot cameras to bridge into the DSLR world. Of course I've been using SLR and DSLR gear for 50 years and I don't need to bridge anything. But I though that getting a smaller camera that does most of what my pro gear does would be a good idea. So after a lot of research I bought the Lumix FZ2500.

Time will tell if this is a good idea or not.

Geri is buying things as well, her old car pretty much died a few months ago so we've been looking around for something new, new to her that is as we are not interested in a new car, and by that I mean anything post 2000, even electric windows is an automatic disqualification for any vehicle we own.

So when passing the Toyota dealer we noticed a '98 Camry. New car dealers don't normally stock older vehicles, they pass them off to the small yards, but this large dealer had one so we drop in to have a look and as soon as she saw the window winders she was hooked.

It'll take a day or two to settle the paperwork. Meanwhile we go into the main street for a coffee and I take a couple of photos of the building facades with my new camera. So far I like it.

Back into Bundy, this time to check out one of the markets.

I don't find it that interesting so go for a wander to try out the new camera some more.

It was OK for this egret shot but this is with the digital zoom maxed out. The quality is not bad considering I guess, but the bird is slow moving so I'm not sure how this camera will work out for wildlife overall. That said, I mostly do general pictorial stuff of old farm buildings etc these days, and I'm sure it will be just fine for that.

Then I spy some boats in the slip yard.

Nearby are a lot of homeless people camping in the park.

This is a growing problem here in Oz (and many other countries it seems), and from what I can see at least the local council here are not moving these people on as I've seen them around here for quite some time.

And finally a couple of photos of the old bridges that cross the Burnett river.

The first one is the railway bridge.

And this one is the old (there's a new one as well, further up river) road bridge.

Installing one of those huge bird netting enclosures.

The Bundaberg area is quite the bread basket of Australia, well one of them at least. The climate is mild and the soil good so just about anything will grow around Bundy. These nets are a common sight.

The view from Wallaby Ridge this morning.

Noice eh?

One day I'll figure out what that mountain is called.

Out and about around Gin Gin.

The main street has a park all the way down the center. It's a very pleasant space that divides the highway into north- and south-bound roads.

This old shovel has been visible from my road for years but way over in a paddock, and even though for all that time I've thought about photographing it that would require knocking on the owner's door and that was all too hard.

But today I see that it's been walked up to the road so I grab a few photos.

A couple of days later it's gone, got sold I suppose.

Sat 05 Aug 2023

Back into Bundy today but on the way I see that one of the local farmers is harvesting his sugar cane right close to the road, too good an opportunity to miss I reckon.

Moving on I see these guys picking strawberries.

And finaly in the main street of Bundy a band is jamming in the pavillion.

I have to say that I'm loving this new camera, while it's not pocketable it is small enough to carry around wherever I go and certainly to have in the car all the time. Without it I would not have got any of the about images, not that I couldn't with the pro gear, it's just that I wouldn't, wouldn't be bothered carrying all the bodies and lenses required to replicate what this Lumix does.

I think that this camera can do most of what I want to do these days, it's no good for macro or fast action I think, but that's not what I'm into now.

It is great to see your site back on line. I have missed the colour and action at Wallaby ridge and the areas round about.
Looking forward to more of your posts. Thank you for the work you put into these.
